In an often-repeated story, Sir Laurence Olivier, playing opposite Dustin Hoffman in the 1976 MarathonMan, is said to have been astonished at the American actor´s lengthy and exhausting Method-inspired preparation activities. Nemandi sem er áhugasamur um leiklist lánaði mér eftirfarandi lista, sem vísar til afburðarárangurs í leiklist í kvikmyndum skv. method acting aðferðinni. Hún fellst í því að leika ekki eins dæmigert er í leikhúsi, skýr framburður og tala hátt og skýrt, heldur miklu frekar að leika sannfærandi með því að sýna sannar tilfinningar. Til þess þá þarf leikarinn að draga inn í leik sinn sína fyrri reynslu, t.d. ef hann á að vera í ástarsorg, þá verður hann að draga fram þá tilfinningu þegar hann var í raunverulegri ástarsorg.
